It's know that it's the photographers job to provide great lighting for photo shoots. I feel the make up artist should provide clean and neat make up application.
I also feel that as an artist first we should not be afraid to step out of our comfort zones and be a little wild. Open to just saying F it have fun and try something new something outside the box... If I spend time working making sure good lighting is in place any make up artist I work with should be on their A+ game when it comes to a clear and consistent application of beautiful make up. Have you ever tried to photoshop a bad make up job? Well I'm here to tell you it's hard as heck, it's like doing the make up all over again. And I won't say any names but a lot of make up artist out here think they are the truth but really it's the photographers who know photoshop well that make there ok work look great! Keep that in mind before getting the big head. Just like me well I knew nothing about lighting so I went to work with other directors and photographers who did. Everyday I'm learning something new and I think the best thing any artist can do is to never arrive never be totally satisfied with your work because you can always do better and you can always come up with a concept more creative. Keep pushing... I love fashion editorial work but the truth is that if you don't have great lighting and great make up application then the image comes out looking incomplete. This year I do not plan to do any incomplete work or projects. So if you feel the need to do things half way and not all the way do not bother contacting me about photo shoots because they will not be done unless every aspect of the shoot is in place.
